Program Summary
A career in education offers a fulfilling path for those who want to make a positive impact on the lives of children and young adults. Whether you aspire to teach in K-12 settings, work in an early childhood program, pursue being a child life specialist, or work with children with special needs, our program can support you in reaching your goals. Our Education Program provides valuable insights into the realities, challenges, and rewards of working with children through a variety of courses and fieldwork opportunities.
The Teacher Preparation path is designed for students who plan to work directly in school classrooms and pursue Texas teacher certification. This program focuses on the instructional, professional, and classroom-based skills needed to teach in Pre-K through 12th-grade settings and to support diverse learners across grade levels and subject areas.
Students earn an Associate of Arts in Teaching (AAT), a 60-semester-credit-hour degree that transfers in its entirety to a four-year university, leading to Texas teacher certification. While all students complete the same core degree, coursework is tailored to align with the grade level and subject area they intend to teach, allowing students to begin building a focused academic pathway early. Through a combination of coursework and field-based experiences, students gain a realistic understanding of the expectations, challenges, and rewards of working in today’s schools.

Child Development/Early Childhood
The Child Development/Early Childhood path prepares students for a wide range of careers supporting children and families in various settings. This program emphasizes child growth and development, family systems, and supportive services rather than traditional Pre-K-12 classroom teaching.
Offered as a stacked certificate and degree program, students gain both academic knowledge and hands-on experience applicable to careers such as childcare, preschool education, child life specialization, child welfare services, family advocacy, and other child-focused roles within educational programs, healthcare settings, and community organizations. This pathway is ideal for students who want to work with children
